iMovie for KidsIn this workshop learn the ins and outs of iMovie and make a film in about the time it takes to watch one. As a group we will write a simple script, cast the actors, story board the action, film and edit using iMovie.
1 day workshop, upper primary to mid high school students, group activity, 2 groups of 6
No prior experience necessary.
All equipment and an experienced facilitator included.

Circuit bending with Toydeath
1- 2 day workshop, upper secondary school students to adults, 12-24 participants
Join members of the legendary electro punk band Toydeath and get into recycling, rehashing, composing, rehearsing and performing. Repatriate discarded children’s noise toys and rework into instruments of adult enjoyment, practice playing and finally perform original music with original instruments. Learn basic circuitry, soldering and make new electronic sounds. 2 day workshops can include rehearsal, costuming and filming of performances with the final music video being released onto Youtube or Vimeo!
Modify an electronic toy to create your own instrument! Hands on and great fun, students walk away with a basic understanding of electronics and your own electronic instrument and/or kit! This workshop is for artists and musicians or anyone who would like to get into electronics. It will suit musicians who are interested in making unique and cheap electronic instruments and microphones. Installation artists will find the skills to make interactive circuits.
The workshop will cover; soldering, construction of audio cables, assembling electronic circuits, circuit bending and toy modification.
All equipment and components provided.

What is a robot? with Dr Wade Marynowsky
3 hour workshop, secondary school students to adults, max. 12 participants
Discuss and discover the creative possibilities of robotics and art, where do technologies and art intersect?
Over three hours, Wade will take you on a journey into the world of robotics where you will discuss then design your own dream machine. This workshop is aimed at challenging preconceived ideas about robotics and foster a creative and thoughtful pathway to innovation, problem solving and research.

Making Movies Without a Camera with Soda_Jerk
3 hour workshop, secondary school students to adults, Groups of 3, Max. 12 participants
Make films using pre existing material and use innovative master editing techniques to produce new work. Learn the ins and outs of sampling from existing material then cutting, pasting and arranging to make your own short film.
These multi award winning artists are also available for highly entertaining, informative performance lectures.

What it is & How to Make Your Own with Warren Armstrong
3 hour workshop, upper secondary school students to adults - great for teachers too!
This session ventures into the fascinating world of mobile augmented reality where artists use online tools and smartphones to “embed” virtual sculptures in the “real world”. It will begin with an overview of the history of the medium and some of the more notable recent works in the field; before explaining how attendees can make their own mobile AR art utilising tools & applications that are free and relatively easy to use.
(In addition to the presentation, there will be a collection of augmented reality art works which will be installed around convention centre, and which will be accessible to anyone which an iPhone 3GS/4/4S, iPad 2 or recent Android smartphone.)
The session is presented by Warren Armstrong, the curator of (Un)seen Sculptures, an exhibition of mobile augmented art by international artists that has been staged in Sydney, Melbourne & Cairns. Warren is also the organiser of Bufo’s Progress, a “colony” of psychedelic virtual toads by New York artist, Will Pappenheimer, that has toured regional galleries in New South Wales & Victoria.

In front of or behind the lens, choreography and movement for screen encourages experimentation and consideration.
Over three hours, school age participants will learn about the importance of movement for camera and cooperate to produce a video work.

Carolyn McKay, Program Manager for d/Lux/MediaArts will give an overview of the development of video art in Australia showing examples of experimental film from the early ‘80s to current works in this exhibition
