What it is & How to Make Your Own with Warren Armstrong
3 hour workshop, upper secondary school students to adults - great for teachers too!

This session ventures into the fascinating world of mobile augmented reality where artists use online tools and smartphones to “embed” virtual sculptures in the “real world”. It will begin with an overview of the history of the medium and some of the more notable recent works in the field; before explaining how attendees can make their own mobile AR art utilising tools & applications that are free and relatively easy to use.

(In addition to the presentation, there will be a collection of augmented reality art works which will be installed around convention centre, and which will be accessible to anyone which an iPhone 3GS/4/4S, iPad 2 or recent Android smartphone.)

The session is presented by Warren Armstrong, the curator of (Un)seen Sculptures, an exhibition of mobile augmented art by international artists that has been staged in Sydney, Melbourne & Cairns. Warren is also the organiser of Bufo’s Progress, a “colony” of psychedelic virtual toads by New York artist, Will Pappenheimer, that has toured regional galleries in New South Wales & Victoria.
