>ABOUT

Australia's premier inter/national showcase of experimental film, video, animation, cd-rom, sound and internet art.

Radical, innovative, challenging, unexpected short works from all corners of the globe.

Participation in the d>art program over the past 4 years has increased exponentially and this year over 400 entries were received from both established and emerging artists around the world.

Panels of Sydney-based artists have chosen the very best and most challenging works to showcase at the d>art01 screenings at the 48th Sydney Film Festival and in the d>art exhibition at City Exhibition Space.

The d>art01 program offers insight into the breadth, depth and complexity of innovative practice and concerns of new media makers worldwide.

This year we are also proud to present a selection of works from Ian Andrews, a seminal Sydney-based sound, video and film artist. Andrews' works are typically mongrel assemblages of animation, scratched and painted film, appropriated images, found film, digital graphics and video synthesis. Resisting interpretation and reframing representations rather than providing refuge in easy consumption, these works engage in a strange and playful recoding of familiar cultural formations. A live sound and visual cut-up performance by Ian Andrews will precede the film/video program at the Dendy Opera Quays.

In conjunction with the Sydney Film Festival Forum program, dLux media arts is convening the forum "The Readymade Future is Online?", an opportunity for panelists and audiences to consider and discuss the technical, creative and logistical potential of digital interactivity at the dawn of the millenium.
