Second Life Machinima (various artists)

d/Art/07secondlife

Second Life is a 3D social networking site where participants can not only meet with each other but could also contribute to the design, coding and construction of their new world. But when the laws of physics have no meaning, when people can fly and when a large number of the women you meet are actually men, it is inevitable that this new world has evolved in ...er... unconventional directions that no longer simply mirror real life.

Some call it a better life while others say 'Get a life'. Through a series of in-world guided tours, public discussions and screenings of SL Machinima (videos made using SL avatars as actors) we will explore the work of artists practising in SL and some of the interesting cultural goings-on that are emerging there.

The Pony Club is a new initiative developed by d/Lux/MediaArts to encourage arts practice and critical dialogue in Second Life. Participants are encouraged to climb aboard one of our uniquely designed magic ponies from our meeting point at the front desk of Odyssey Gallery.  From there you will be taken on a teleportation trail ride through galleries, installations and interesting new communities in SL.

Participants can join us at the Australian Centre for Photography or meet us in Second Life at ExhibitA Gallery on Odyssey Island

Join us at the Australian Centre for Photography or online from the fromt desk at Odyssey Gallery for an introductory tour of artists working in Second Life. As well as visiting some of SL's most respected gallery spaces, these tours will also visit artists in their inworld installations and go to some of the more interesting communities that have sprung up in SL. If there's time, we may even go shopping; a favoured pastime of most SL residents.

Join us at the Australian Centre for Photography or online at Odyssey Gallery to visit the 'dark side' of Second Life. Yes, there will be a dungeon and possibly a stripper, but the focus of this tour will be to explore the ways in which Second Life has become a locus for new and unique sexualities. Bring a sense of humour.
