| In Breed Erwin Driessens & Maria Verstaapen create objects via a computer program exploring virtual space which presents possible configurations of objects in an abstract space. Generating algorithm in a process similar to cell division, the Breed software uses evolutionary principles to manipulate genetic code. While the program is breeding, the genetic code is mutated until it produces an object that has a maximal fitness |
| Erwin Driessens & Maria Verstaapen see a challenge in the question " how can we express the longing for an activity that explores the unseen, the unthought and the unknown?" IMA Traveller is a software that enables the audience to take an endless journey through an instantaneously created space. Continuously travelling forward in a flowing movement, one can go in any direction although never returning to the place one came from. zooming in and out on an endlessly detailed surface without ever reaching a border. The IMA space transports us into an ever refining web of pixel consciousness! |
| With the recent boom in mp3, the internet is suddenly swarming with audio -- but it's not all Brittney Spears; the net has become an important medium for underground and experimental music cultures. autonomousAudio curated by Mitchell Whitelaw is a presentation of experimental electronic music and interactive audio processes which make use of complex systems and artificial life.. Automated rhythms flicker, feedback cycles spiral, algorithmic transformations unfold; the net itself becomes a musical instrument, a sound field crawling with autonomous processes. |
| Life Spacies II is an interactive artificial life environment where users can create artificial creatures by typing text messages. Based on the idea of using language as genetic code and translating words or sentences into visual forms, Life Spacies II is an interactive system for the Internet. The text characters function as genetic code for the creatures design. Each different text will create a new creature which has the potential to eat up other creatures move fast or slow and potentially mate. Created by the internationally renowned media artists Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau Life Spacies II was developed for the ICC Communication Museum in Tokyo permanent collection. | aaa | ![]() |
